The growing need for financial resources for the work of HOME International was the catalyst behind the opening of SECOND STREET Thrift Store.  

Families and businesses had learned what Debbie was doing to help poor and abandoned children and they wanted to help.  They wanted to contribute what they had - clothing and household items.   They asked if Debbie could take it along to India and hoped it would help in some way.    But since traveling with excess baggage became more and more difficult, Debbie resourcefully decided to accept the donations from friends and businesses, turn them into cash and give the money to the needs of HOME International’s support of the orphan girls.   And though the idea of a thrift store was not new, there was a need in her home town of Denver, PA for a good upscale thrift store that would cater to all families who loved a bargain. 

So in July 2009, with a team of 2 staff and volunteers, SECOND STREET opened.   Today, a staff of 6 and  20+ volunteers work at SECOND STREET Thrift store. 

 Families and business donate their excess items of clothing, household goods and furniture.  SECOND STREET sells these items at a reduced retail price, giving our customers many bargains that keep them returning. 

100% of SECOND STREET'S profits are given to HOME International. 

About SECOND STREET, Ephrata

The community has been very generous with their donations. In Spring 2010, the need for more warehouse space became apparent. Debbie selected the former Artworks building at Donecker's in Ephrata. The size was ideal, and the space conducive to opening a second retail shop. So that's just what she did! On July 15, 2010, SECOND STREET was opened to the public. Location was fabulous: next to Goodwill and just a block away from other consignment shops in Ephrata. Ephrata's consumers could now enjoy shopping on a thrift store circuit. The proceeds from SECOND STREET will pay for the rent of the warehouse without impeding profits for HOME International.
